Be Ready and Keep Ahead!

Our club members Manwel Abela and Stephanie Buttieġieġ share their experience of this year’s club training camp, which was held between the 19th and 21st September 2016.

The 3-day camp kicked off with a tough beach session at Riviera Bay in Għajn Tuffieħa, after which the group of 20 participants proceeded to settle at our lodging venue, Villa Psaigon. Savio AC committee planned daily activities, which revolved around athletics training as the main focus. After the sessions the group rested in order to replenish the necessary energies for upcoming sessions.

We had the opportunity to meet two prominent local athletes, Mario Debono and Francesca Borg, who shared their experiences about representing Malta at an international level, as well as tips on maintaining a balanced and healthy lifestyle. These talks were great eye-openers and an inspiration to train harder in order to excel in the sport we are passionate about – athletics.

Early Wednesday morning (last day) saw all the participants complete an intense session in the form of a challenge intended to help strengthen group unity and team work. This was followed by a Yoga session – a different yet vital way for us to relax after three days of intense training. Later on in the evening the club’s Annual General Meeting and Awards Ceremony were held.

The training camp is a perfect opportunity for
us athletes to improve our performance in
multiple ways. The numerous training sessions were challenging and required the right amount of mental ability and will power to complete. Camp attendees were provided with the ideal environment to get to know their teammates and build a strong support system for the 2016-17 athletic season. Discipline, commitment and team spirit were values we came away with after such an experience.
