Savio 10k – 2015: Success

For the second time round, the Savio AC 10k and 2k races were organised on February 8th 2015, just two weeks prior to the Malta Marathon, making them an excellent final test. The 10k race was a unique tough race combining spectacular views and fresh air as the route goes through Buskett and along Dingli cliffs, while the 2k race was run in a completely traffic free environment, along Dingli’s countryside rubble walls and fields.

A record number of participants took part in this year’s race, including a few elite athletes. Keith Galea of Birkirkara St. Joseph finished first in an impressive time of 35:10, breaking the course record. He was followed by Pembroke Athleta’s Drew Lang in 36:46 and Piotr Januszewski of in 38:59. Hannah Pace of Pembroke Athleta crossed the line first for the ladies in 41:08. Starmax’s Josann Attard Pulis, who was last year’s winner, finished in second place with a time of 41:41, closely followed by Margaret Seguna of Mellieha AC in 41:56.

In the Junior’s race, Isaac Bonett of Pembroke Athleta managed to finish the race first for the second consecutive time in 7:02. He was closely followed by Jake Gauci of Savio AC in 07:11 and Pembroke Athleta’s Anton J. Debono in 7:19.
